This image is perfect. It isn’t just an image depicting the lives and companions of the Doctor, but a true depiction of how they are interconnected with one another. It goes beyond a simple image. It is a powerful illustration of what we’ve witnessed and transitioned over the past 6 years.
Look closely at Nine; he holds Rose’s hand. And after Nine regenerates, Rose is left to hang on to Tenth, by his scarf no less. Rose went through a transition from Doctor to Doctor and it is shown clearly. Tenth had two more companions after Rose: Martha and Donna. They cling to Ten as he goes on racing through the universe, each just as important as the other, each trying to fill the void of Rose’s departure with their own and unique personalities and traits. One day they all will even meet and make one of the greatest episodes since the Doctor Who revival.
Now, there is a new transition after. You can see the Eleventh Doctor right behind Tenth and his companions. You see him on its own. He does not cling or keep the chain going as his other regenerations. The raggedy Doctor runs holding to his best friend Amy, and Amy clings to her true love and husband Rory. This transition is clear that it’s something new completely. Eleven does not dwell on the past as much as Tenth did. He’s brand new, but still the same man. His personality, taste and clothes may change but he’s still the same man, the Doctor. Trust the Doctor.
